Pauline Gets Ruth Drunk (Madeline Kahn and Phylicia Rashad)

From "Cosby, " Season 2, Episode 47: "On The Rocks." After Ruth's fight with Hilton, Pauline brings Ruth to her house for cider and a talk. Well, more cider than talk. Best part for me? Madeline drops Pauline's careful WASPish speech and returns to Queens, Darling.

For Richer For Poorer, Madeline Kahn
exercising in heels!
She was So Tiny! ❤
This seems to be from a foreign country, the US has change so profoundly.
What show is this
"Cosby" which was a different show than "The Cosby Show"
This must have been on past my bedtime, I've never seen it. I wss only 8!
Please can someone tell me, is this the Cosby show or is it something else?...
This is not The Cosby Show, but a second series called Cosby. He plays an out of work airport employee.
@@CTForrester thanks
@@CTForresterthanks for clearing that up! I was confused? Who’s Barney?
@reginasmith9014 Thanks for th great questions! Barney is an unseen boyfriend of Madeline Kahn's character, Pauline, for this one episode (Valentine's Day). She waits by the phone for him to call, all day, finally leaving for the Jeffrey Osborne concert. I can't tell, but it looks like her singing was impromptu by everyone else's faces 😃
Delicious she should still be among us 💔
The execs screwed this up I read.
Oh she deserved so much better. Lazy writing. Take the restaurant scene for example. They sit down, order fruit salad, food arrives, they talk about stealing the diary, and then, conversation over - they just get up and walk out! Without a bite, and without paying.
Right?(??)
I agree with you, about the writing. The scenes at the neighbor's house were very "I Love Lucy" on drugs; if her husband was friends with the guy, it would have been simpler to go over to visit, then find a reason to use the master bathroom.
Unfortunately, these shows usually cast actors as married and living in households, etc. Very played out but that was the time. Even Paul Lynde played a married man with 2 children in his sitcom.
Why when I’m watching this (and missing Madeline Kahn) do I think of another genius who passed too soon, Judy Holliday.
The ratings were 15.1 but 40 years I guess that wasn't good enough for a major network.
How did I not know this existed?
Sitcoms where risky business in 1983. Then it was considered a dying trend. If it didn't do amazing in ratings then they where gonna jump on the A Team action wagon.
Thanks for the upload !! I am surprised that didn't last longer.. Anything with Madeline Kahn..Was sure to be a hit !!!
An enjoyable show!
This 2nd Cosby Show was so sweet
I loved this show. Didn't last near as long as it should of
Where's the end of this episode I like when they start playing I'm so tired of being alone drunk in the bed together sleep.... beautiful chemistry
Yes, Madeline, I had no idea at 7 years old you would speak to young gay me. Thank you.

Loved this show
Plot twist: It was Cosby in disguise.
She's been gone over 21 years and I still miss her...
Theme song eerily similar to Newhart
surprised CBS didn't bring it back
It aired on ABC.
@@Asukenick oh okay
The two classiest drunks you will ever see.
Yesss Yesss 👏🏾👍🏾💯❤️
Loved this show as a teen and was more than a bit cheesed off when the Abysmally Boneheaded Clods at ABC pulled it
Kept overated dynasty until 1989. Xd
Seems like the person who cast this instinctively picked people you'd instantly hate.
More season 2 episodes please...
I loved their chemistry. They were so funny together. It's like they been friends all their life.
I agree. I know there was a great deal of love there.
@@CTForrester I never heard of this show until recently and I binge watched all four seasons. And I love it. I didn't even know he did another show after the Cosby show which is one of my fave shows. Omg this show is so funny. Lol
2:13 that's great acting
I LOVE this one. Funny. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Madeline Conn has risen. Check out Oh, Kay. LMAO!
I'm getting myself a wife like phylisha Rashad..like for real for real
From your mouth to God's ear...
@@CTForrester thank you I Amen that.
Good luck in your search. They are a rare breed.
Phylicia
Madeline Kahn was a comedic genius!!!
My little sister and I used to watch Oh, Madeline on Friday nights. We were so sad when it was cancelled. It wasn’t super funny, but MK is watchable in anything.
I remember this show -- it was criminally overlooked and underrated. Deserved a few seasons -- not just one! Thanks for posting.
ABC's Tuesday night lineup fell apart that season after a slight revamp along with strong competition from the other networks. NBC's The A-Team took a huge chunk out of ABC's ratings in the 8pm hour, which consisted of Just Our Luck and Happy Days. The CBS Tuesday movie at the 9pm hour ate into Three's Company and Oh, Madeline. Mid-season,m NBC would premiere Riptide at 9pm which ranked at number 18.
Sometimes the show is good just doesn't fit the network this was on ABC it looks and feels and would have done well on cbs
I agree. They worked so well with Carol Burnett.
I agree. It would have competed well with Newhart in the Monday night lineup.
Does anyone else remember The Cosby Mysteries with Mos Def ??
Loved this tv show!
She was SO Sexy!!
Ruth was tow up 😂😂😂😭😂😂
Akiya Hall tow up to show up😭👌🏽🙏🏽😂
I remember this Tv show
Madeline Gail Kahn (born Madeline Gail Wolfson; September 29, 1942 - December 3, 1999) was an American actress, comedian, voice actress, and singer, known for comedic roles in films directed by Peter Bogdanovich and Mel Brooks, including What's Up, Doc? (1972), Young Frankenstein (1974), High Anxiety (1977), History of the World, Part I (1981), and her Academy Award-nominated roles in Paper Moon (1973) and Blazing Saddles (1974). Kahn made her Broadway debut in Leonard Sillman's New Faces of 1968, and received Tony Award nominations for the play In the Boom Boom Room in 1974 and for the original production of the musical On the Twentieth Century in 1978. She starred as Madeline Wayne on the short-lived ABC sitcom Oh Madeline (1983-84) and won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1987 for ABC Afterschool Special. She received a third Tony Award nomination for the revival of the play Born Yesterday in 1989, before winning the 1993 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for the comedy The Sisters Rosensweig. Her other film appearances included The Cheap Detective (1978), City Heat (1984), Clue (1985), and Nixon (1995).
Stella Maris We shall not see her like again.
@@CTForrester Nope. Madeline was a shooting star. Aren''t we lucky we got to see her?!
I adore Madeline Kahn. She and Phylicia are delightful in this scene. Thank you so much for posting.
Phylicia Rashad is the best actress in the history of television; she has it all: class, tact, humor, understanding, timing, versatility, beauty, and all around rhythm concerning whatever role she plays... plus she never over-acts her part in whatever roles she has, which is key; she allows her role to be the star instead of herself which elevates her ability as a performer.
I like this show 'Cosby' even a little more than the other show because it was casual, cool, smooth, and didn't try too hard with great messages. Both of these women are great actresses... this was such a veteran cast and I wish this series could have lasted longer.
Plain Simple Agree on all counts. Thank you.
You welcome. If you have more shows please post them as you are able. I remember episodes about when Hilton found an old friend that was homeless or the one earlier in the series when the social security office thought he was dead and they had the butcher wanting to marry Ruth. I think there was one where it was like 1997 when Erica and Griff' moved in and they gave the last yohoo to Phil Burt (?) who was someone who called the flower shop that they turned into a coffee place. I loved that show. Plus they did a great job showing the transition of Hilton Lucas working for the airlines going into retirement and two bright young people (Erica/Griffin) leaving lucrative careers in law (Erica) and producing music (Griffin) to become teachers. With this show you see how family is about people who love and take care of you - which is why earlier Hilton would ask Pauline if she loved him after Pauline would exit saying she loved Ruth.
YES! Brilliant. They disappeared from public view when the news about BC hit. Amazon video is now showing them again (free if you watch commercials or a charge for no commercials) for which I'm grateful. I bought copies of the entire series from a private collector. It really is an outstanding series. I plan to post more when time frees up with other Madeline Kahn-related works after I clean them up ("Anyone Can Whistle" is practically unwatchable. Some blurry clips can be seen here on UA-cam).
Truth be told, "Cosby" did get a little message-heavy starting in season three and especially in season four, but overall I prefer it as well.
@@CTForrester THANK YOU!
It's like Flames, Flames on the side of my face...
Nathalie Wood Heaving breaths, heaving....breaths..
"Yes, well, that's not funny, but, um..." Pitch perfect line reading, as always.
This is my favorite scene 😂
